Going Fast...

I really hope everyone got to watch the Olympic triathlon on Monday. The race Simon Whitfield ran was gnarly. Those guys go so hard (I need to take notes). SQW came from falling off the back in forth to surging to the front and then holding on for second.

this is the only video I have been able to find.

It was good time to see this as this is the first week of my build phase and time to start going fast myself. Tuesday morning was a very challenging brick and only a taste of things to come.

Bike (MTB):

run:

This workout was HARD... and it's not going to get any easier. I honestly don't know if I have ever really pushed myself as hard as I could in training. I think I am kind of a sandbagger. I mean I train a lot and am very consistent, but think I can work harder when the workout calls for it... epsecially on the run. I need to get more out of my comfort zone and get to a point, like my homeboy Trevor says all the time, "you should feel like you are going to puke!"

I also hit a strength class at 24 hour fitness with Beth. It was called 24 S.E.T. It kicked my ass... in a good way. I am really trying to not B.S. when it comes to strength and core training over the next couple of months and I think I will keep going to this class. It was different and actually a good time.... and I was one of only 3 dudes in the class. Hopefully the DOMS I am dealing with right now won't be as bad next week.

ok... time to get back to work and then hit trails for some near-puking run intervals!

Near puking is okay. Puking is not okay.

While I agree with the intent of making hard days hard ... be sure not to leave the race out there in a workout. I think you got that dialed in. I know I have done some workouts (not recently) that were more over the top than races. Wrong approach ...

Other than ... if you puke, I expect some video ... but here and not on VO2MAXXED.

If you really want to puke, a beer mile might be in order. I might put that on my 40th birthday list.

For the Olympics Triathlon, you can get highlight videos, or the entire race videos for the men's and women's races at:
http://www.nbcolympics.com/triathlon/index.html

They are at the right hand side (highlight, encore, and rewind)

You're dead on right about the finish. Absolutely amazing! 4 or 5 guys sprinting for 3 medals.

The video from Dan is the shizzle. I missed the race on NBC. Reading SQW's blog made it sick to see him do so well. I love that surge at the end. But the 27 year-old just had too much compared to the 33 year-old.

I need some results to keep my head above water in this champions blogosphere. I'm working on it.

"step class" James...wow. :-)

Sounds like some tough sessions...don’t forget a key concept...repeatability and sustainability.

Simon rocked it at the Olympics. I was jumping and shouting at the TV. Pretty sure my neighbours thought I was crazy.

I can feel ya on putting in the hard efforts. I'm really trying to push myself right now in my peak workouts, and am amazed at what I can do.

i hope you have recovered from the step class by now!
but yeah, wasn't that olympic race crazy?!?!?! i was screaming at my computer as i watched it live. i think that the mental aspect was especially interesting because you could actually see where simon thought he couldn't do it and fourth would be okay...and then 1 minute later he was "f*** no", i want this" and he whipped off his hat and bridged the gap and got down to business. so tough. so cool.
